Sunday Oliseh

Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has expressed his frustrations over inability of most Nigerian Professional football league (NPFL) clubs to release their players invited to the national team training camp in Abuja so far.

“Those who are commenting or laying emphasis on the fact that we rely mainly on foreign players to play should start asking questions because we are back home to train and we don’t have people to train,” the Eagles’ coach lamented after Tuesday’s training session.

Oliseh’s frustration stems from the realization that only 14 out of the 23 players invited from the domestic league attended the first training session held on Tuesday morning. “The clubs are trying to hold on to their players. So, how do we now want them to learn and catch up with the ones that are in front of them?,” Oliseh queried.

“You can see that it affected our training, we have to change our training programme. We had invited 23 and we ended up with 14 field players. So, I will leave you to judge from this,” he told reporters.

Oliseh was also quoted as disclosing that only five players out of the 23 invited for training camp at Abuja will join the 18 foreign players for the September 5 African Nations Cup qualifier against  Tanzania in Dar es-Salaam.
