Adebayo

Embattled Togolese striker, Seyi Emmanuel Adebayor has been invited to lead the Hawks of Togo in their African Nations Cup qualifier against Djibouti on September 4 following a resolution of his row with the national team coach, Tom Saintfiet.

Also invited into the Togolese squad are veteran goalkeeper Kossi Agassa and Olympique Marseille midfielder Alaixys Romao, both of whom turned down a call-up in June.

The coach and the captain clashed in June when Adebayor turned up several days late for the opening match of the qualifying campaign against Liberia. Although, the striker later featured in the game and went on to score an 87th-minute winner in the 2-1 victory, he later criticized the technical handlers for mistreating him, threatening to dump the team.

However, following a patch-up of the row, the Belgian gaffer wasted no time in drafting Adebayor to the squad despite not playing first team football at  the Tottenham Hotspur, denoting his belief that the striker can still deliver for the national team.

Adebayor, who has been told by his English club that he is surplus to requirement and a proposed move to Aston Villa to team up with his former coach, Tim Sherwood, has not materialized thus far.
