The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has produced Abdulrasheed Maina before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja several weeks after he jumped bail and went into hiding in Niger Republic. Maina, former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), is standing trial for alleged money laundering to the tune of N2 billion.
It could be recalled that Maina stopped attending proceedings in September, prompting the trial judge, Okon Abang, to revoke his bail. His surety, Ali Ndume, senator representing Borno south, was also remanded in prison. He was later granted bail on account of”good behaviour”.
However, the judge continued Maina’s trial in absentia until he was arrested on Monday in Niger Republic where he had took refuge, and was extradited to Nigeria on Thursday.
