Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria

The Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) has urged the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to fast-track the expansion of broadband in the country. Engr. Lanre Ajayi, ATCON President insisted that for Nigeria to meet the 30 percent  target set for Broadband expansion in 2018, the Federal Government must consider fast-tracking the implementation process as a matter of priority.

Ajayi maintained that from all indications, the country is moving at a snail speed, fuelling the doubts that Nigeria can ever meet the set broadband penetration 2018.

He told journalists in Lagos that Nigeria will not be able to achieve 30 per cent target from the 10 per cent broadband penetration it presently occupies, as a result of the slow pace at which the country is addressing broadband penetration.

“Unless the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government fast-tracks the implementation process of the country’s broadband plan, attaining the 30 per cent broadband penetration target by 2018 will remain a mirage,” he said.
